Strategic Communication for Tech Companies

Magnus Rønning

Hi, I'm Magnus. I'm a strategic communication advisor with 20 years in B2B technology. I work with technical founders and companies that have built something strong but struggle to explain it in a way that makes investors, buyers, or stakeholders act. No agency, no account team. Just me and the problem.

Let's have a conversation
20 years in B2B technology Direct — no agency overhead B2B tech specialist Investors, buyers, and government stakeholders Oslo-based, working globally

We're preparing to raise. The product works, customers are using it — but every pitch goes sideways. We can't get investors to see what we see.

We have customers and revenue, but nobody can explain what we do in one sentence. Sales cycles are longer than they should be.

We're growing and bringing in marketing people — but everything they produce sounds slightly off. There's no foundation for them to work from.

We have one shot at this — a funding round, a government tender, a major partnership. We need to get the story exactly right.

That's exactly what I fix.

Four ways I can
close the gap

01

Strategic Narrative Architecture

I find the real story behind your product and build it into a logical framework your whole organisation can use. The output is a communication platform: positioning, core message, audience narratives, and the language your team operates from.

02

Investor and Stakeholder Pitch Development

A pitch that holds up under scrutiny needs a rigorous argument, not just good slides. I combine business case construction with the narrative craft that makes complex ideas land with non-technical audiences. The output is a presentation ready to deliver, with the logic to answer hard questions.

03

Communication Platform for Scaling Teams

When you bring in marketing people or an agency, they need a foundation. I build it once: positioning, message hierarchy, tone of voice, audience frameworks. From that point, everything your team produces points in the same direction.

04

AI Marketing Coaching

I teach individuals and teams to use AI agents for consistent, on-brand marketing output. I define the approach, build in the strategic context, and train your team to produce on-brand output independently. One-on-one or workshop format.

20+ years in
tech marketing

I've spent 20 years
making complex technology clear.

I started in B2B technology not as a marketer running campaigns, but as the person who figured out how to make technically complex things understandable to the audiences that matter. Investors, enterprise buyers, government stakeholders. That work has taken me through global product marketing at Conax, brand strategy at NAGRA/Kudelski Group, and building the investor narrative that secured pre-seed funding for Hellolang through Antler VC.

I work alone. When you engage me, you get my full attention. Not an account manager, not a junior team. I work on the story, not just how it is told. My experience is with tech companies and technical founders, across funding rounds, product launches, and market entries.

The work I do best sits between strategy and communication. The question is not "how do we reach more people." It is "how do we explain what we do in a way that makes the right people move." If that is the problem you are facing, I am built for it.

From first conversation
to finished work.

The first conversation is not a sales call. I am not going to pitch you a package or ask about your budget. I want to understand your product, your market, and where the communication is breaking down. In most engagements, the stated problem is not the real one. That gap is where the work actually begins.

Once I have a clear picture, I put together a diagnosis. What is working, what is not, and why. From there, we agree on a scope and I get to work. No juniors, no account managers, no handoffs. You work with me directly, from the first conversation to the final deliverable.

The output is usable, not decorative. A communication platform your leadership team can operate from. A pitch that holds up when the hard questions come. A message architecture your marketing team can build on independently. I do not produce frameworks that need a workshop to interpret.

You can engage me for a single project — a funding round, a product launch, a market entry. Or bring me in alongside your team over time. Either way, you know exactly what you are getting and from whom.

What people
usually ask

What does a strategic communication advisor actually do?

I work with technical founders and B2B tech companies to close the gap between what they have built and how they communicate it. That means uncovering the real narrative, structuring it into a clear logical framework, and giving the leadership team or marketing function the language to operate from independently. The output is not a campaign. It is the foundation that makes all subsequent communication coherent.

How is working with Bongi different from hiring an agency?

With an agency, you get a team you did not hire, managed by an account manager who does not fully understand your product, executing a brief they half-understood. With me, you get one person. 20 years of experience, full attention, no handoffs. I do the work myself, from diagnosis to delivery.

What kind of companies do you work with?

Technical founders preparing to raise, B2B tech companies that have traction but no clear voice, and leadership teams facing a high-stakes external moment. A funding round, a government tender, a strategic partnership. The common thread is a strong product and a communication gap that is costing them.

How long does an engagement typically take?

It depends on the scope. A focused narrative architecture project, where we define positioning and build the communication platform, typically takes four to six weeks. A pitch development engagement, working towards a specific external moment, can be shorter. I do not pad timelines and I do not drag out work to fill a retainer.

Where do you start when you take on a new client?

With the problem, not the brief. Before I propose anything, I spend time understanding where the real friction is. Whether that is a pitch that is not landing, a narrative that is too vague, or a team that has no consistent language to work from. The first conversation is diagnostic. I listen more than I speak.

Do you work with companies outside Norway?

Yes. I work with founders and companies across Europe and beyond. Most engagements are conducted remotely, so location is not a constraint. If you have built something technically strong and need help making it legible to the audiences that matter, geography is the least of your concerns.

Ready to close the
communication gap?

I'll tell you honestly whether I can help — and what it would look like. Send me a note.
